What we know so far
La Copita is on Yaowaphanit Road, in the Song Wat part of Chinatown. It bills itself as the first bar in Thailand given over entirely to agave. The model is the small standing bars of Tokyo and Sydney, and Bangkok writers compare it to Cantina OK! in Sydney.
Arnon “Kay” Hoontrakul runs the drinks. He came from Opium Bar, the cocktail bar on the top floors of the Potong building, also in Chinatown.
The shelf goes past tequila and mezcal to sotol and bacanora. Some of it comes through Bootleggers Trading Co., the Bangkok importer that brought La Higuera sotol into the country.
The house drinks lean savory. KJ's Carrot is mezcal, black pepper, a baby-carrot cordial, Campari, and tonic. Jay's Mango Disaster arrives frozen in shot glasses, with feni and mala in it. Reports put the average spend at more than ฿500 a head.
A different guest bartender takes over the menu each week, so what you drink depends on when you go.
